Maths Magic on Problem Solving Strategy (Primary)

This is arranged as in-house workshops for Teachers. These 2 half-day workshops (Part A & B) aim to help you impart the application of problem solving strategies easily and clearly to students. Heuristics such as hands-on puzzles, card tricks and magic will be employed in the process thus making learning fun and effective. Each problem solving strategy will be illustrated using two different activities, thus allowing you to impart the strategies to both lower and upper primary students in fun and magical ways. The problem solving strategies will be highlighted are

Part A:
(1) Intelligent Guess and Check
(2) Looking for Patterns
(3) Simplifying the Problem
(4) Making a Systematic List/ Table
(5) Elimination
(6) Acting it out/ Experiment with Real Object

Part B
(1) Restating the Problem in another way
(2) Working Backwards
(3) Drawing a Diagram
(4) Using Logic
(5) Relating a new problem to familiar problems
(6) Adopting a different Point of View

The sessions will cover topics like Number sense, Number patterns, Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, Maths operations, Fractions, Calendar, Geometry, Cube, Arrangement, Units of Measurement, Area, Money, Time, Ascending and Descending Numbers.

About the Workshop Speaker
MDM TEOH POH YEW is a dynamic and creative mathematics educator, international trainer and author.
